Strokestown House and Walled Gardens are the centrepiece of an 18th-century Anglo-Irish country estate containing a fully refurbished Great House with formal and original kitchen gardens that have been restored to their exacting former conditions. It is a magnificent location for period drama or fantasy with all the contrasting physical environments of a life past lived. The House contains its original furnishings and a very fine example of an 18th century Galleried Kitchen. The House and its environs offer an authenticity that would be almost impossible to create elsewhere and has featured in the thought-provoking movie Anne Devlin 1984. It was also the location for “The Big House” a four-part TV3 documentary in 2013.
