‘The Gift’: A musical performance commemorating The Choctaw Nation’s donation during the Great Irish Famine.
Join us for a live performance of this very special musical piece, in commemoration of the donation made by the Choctaw Nation to Irish Famine Relief in 1847. This newly developed piece is a response to the poetry of Doireann Ni Ghriofa and LeAnne Howe of the Choctaw Nation. The basic musical score was created by renowned composer Stephen Gardner and developed and improvised upon by Ellen Demos (experimental vocalist), Arun Rao (cellist), Alex Petcu (percussionist), and Seán MacErlaine (woodwinds and live processing).
